Storyteller & Creative Cross-Breed
In Short: I am a London-based actor, theatremaker and researcher.
The Core: I love stories. And using different languages to tell them. English, German, Greek, Art, Science, Text, Body. I also love the space between these different languages. It makes me uncomfortable and excited.
I am a cultural and creative nomad: the happiest at my native sunny places, close to blue sea and black rocks, but was also born with a spirit to travel, meet new people and make new homes. My journey so far has offered me a type of international upbringing in Greece, the UK, the US and Switzerland.
Fun Facts: I love, miss and understand each one of my cultural homes the most, when I am afar. Nostalgia is my strongest identity index. I love lemons, Fizz Wiz (the red ones), honey, medieval castles, cinnamon, mastic melitinia, the smell of books and the smell of permanent markers. Also, I come from an island, but I don’t like fish.
My Journey: I have an interdisciplinary background in art and science, which manifests in my work. I trained in classical and contemporary theatre (LAMDA MA Classical Acting, DCL at the Old Diorama Arts Centre, UK) and have worked for years as a neuroscientist; academic and strategist at the forefront of AI and Neurotechnology. As a performer and creator, I am therefore interested in cross-disciplinary approaches to classical and contemporary storytelling and very passionate about (i) themes at the interface of art and science, and (ii) themes of hybrid cultural identity.
Moreover, as a cross-disciplinary breed, I am a performer and theatre-maker with strong movement and neuroscience drives: they combine aspects of physical theatre with insights from systems neuroscience and the theory of embodied cognition. My training and main influences in physical theatre include Lecoq and Grotowsky based pedagogies.
Themes: I have lived and worked in London, Athens, Zurich and NY, and commonly collaborate with entities and theatre/production companies that champion different forms of innovation and diversity emerging in contemporary multi-cultural habitats. In my ongoing partnership with TEAM Theatre Company, NY, as associate director, and in my previous collaboration with Emerge Production House, London, as Head of Innovation and Development, I’ve focused on technical innovation, cross-cultural identities and advocating under-represented voices, especially the voice of the first-generation immigrant; of the foreigner; of the Other.
